Subaru is a boring kid with nothing much going for him. For some unexplained reason, he gets transported to an alternative, fantasy world. He gets beaten up by thus in an alleyway there but gets saved by Emilia. Subaru meets another girl who brings him to the famous local blacksmith and Subaru gets killed there. But, after he does, he wakes up to the moment before he got beaten up, as if he were sent back. Subaru dies another time and gets sent back again. This concludes that he can in fact go back to a certain point in time if he dies. And he dies again. He goes back to the blacksmith and the girl who brought him there instead, this time though. And this time they find out who killed everyone the first time including Subaru. Some swordsman appears and saves them before they could get killed again. The culprit manages to runs away before Subaru passes our and wakes up in a bed in a mention, next to Rem and Ram - maid twins, who are watching over him. They were both born with one demon horn, instead of one child with two demon horns. Ram used to be the one who could control her magic well and was lots of help to the village whilst Rem was almost forgotten as she couldn't. But due to a certain event in history, Ram lost her horn, forcing Rem to learn to use magic like a Ram. So now everyone likes Rem instead of Ram. Subaru becomes a butler at this mansion. Rem kills Subaru and he wakes up in a new timeframe. In the same bed as before, in the same mansion. There is a curse spreading through the land and Subaru finds out it was because of a dog he met along with some village kids. As Subaru goes into the forest to catch the demon dog, he runs into hellhounds who jump him and try to kill him together with Rem who came with him. But Rem fights back and kills the hellhounds. Some Royal election takes place where Subaru makes a fuss because of everyone's reaction to Emilia. Therefore, Subaru gets beaten up once more by a White Knight. He wakes up to Emilia back at the mansion. Subaru tries telling Emilia about his ability but something's preventing him from being able to do so. Emilia gets mad at him because it makes her misunderstand him. Subaru later gets captured and has to suffer as Ram gets killed with one of the village kids they used to know. Rem dies too. And after having to see all that, Subaru gets killed too. He woke up to Ram in the mansion this time. Rem is not there as she's non-existent in this timeframe. Emilia dies, and Subaru dies once more! Subaru and Rem are on a castle and Rem confesses to Subaru saying she loves him. But Subaru rejects her by bluntly saying he loves Emilia. So, Rem kills him again. Eventually, in one of the many timeframes, Subaru tells Rem to save her confession for later, after they defeat a huge magical whale that was spawned around a titanic tree in the middle of nowhere. To defeat it took a lot of soldiers and help of lots of people. After cutting and damaging the whale many times, it finally plummets to the ground and disappears. Subaru then proceeds to head to Betelguese who he eventually also defeats, after having seen how he killed Rem slowly and gruesomely right in front of Subaru who was unable to do anything. The curse around this world finally got lifted for some people. But, he still goes back in time and has to defeat Betelguese again, but now it's only a battle with one as the other one had a few different people who together were Betelguese. They have invisible arms, therefore making them very powerful and capable of defeating their enemies, especially regular people like Subaru. At one point, Rem dies at the mansion and Subaru returns there to just find her blood. The Anime ended with Subaru embracing Rem during a snow storm in front of he mansion. And some monster starts appearing, breaking through the roof of it. It's eyes started glowing and Subaru's head popped off, the screen faded to black and that's it.
