SEASON 1: Ken Kaneki is a student living in Tokyo. Ghouls live among the people in this world. Kaneki often goes to a coffee place where he drinks beverages with his best friend Hide. They go there because there's a pretty girl there all the time, called Rize, too. Kaneki doesn't dare to talk to her though. But she one day caught him looking at her and came over to him and asked him out on a date. The walk together into an alleyway, where Rize shows her true nature - she's a Ghoul. Kaneki tries to run away but construction material ends up falling down on them, killing Rize and leaving Kaneki with some broken organs. He is taken to the hospital and wakes up from his short coma and finds out some of Rize's internal organs were used on him to replace his' which were crushed by the material. He became a Half/One-eyed Ghoul. Kaneki was shocked and tried to eat any normal food (Ghouls can't eat those) and sure enough, he couldn't either. He therefore starves and has no choice but to go hunt for a human prey. After attempting to take a human, he meets another Ghoul that tries to kill him since he was about to steal his food. Touka comes in and saves Kaneki by taking him to the very coffee shop he used to go to in his 'human-days'. But now, as a Ghoul, he learns that there is only one product that he can consume other than human flesh - coffee. So he starts working there together with the other employees who are Ghouls too. He also meets Hinami here. But now that Kaneki is a Ghoul, he's scared about Hide finding out and he thinks his Ghoul instincts will get the better of him and hurt Hide. Kaneki was a rare type of Ghoul since he was one-eyes, and most have two Ghoul eyes (black with red irises and red veins around the eyes). Therefore, many people within the Ghoul industry were out to get him. Big Madam first grabs ahold of him and forces him to battle with some monster to show what he's capable of - to show what his Quinque is. After escaping this, some of the audience members in the fight caught brought their attention to him and more people started coming for him, including Oomori, Amon, Mado, Tsukiyama, the owls and more (These are investigators and Ghouls). Kaneki goes through a crisis and really doesn't want to be a Ghoul, and he doesn't want to feast of people. Touka's brother appears and comes to the coffee shop since they found out where the Ghouls and Kaneki stay. Oomori also invades the shop and smashes everyone. After his rampage, he takes Kaneki and chains him onto a chair in a weird room, where he continues to abuse Kaneki. Eventually, he puts a centipede in Kaneki's ear. This lead him to finally loose his mind and he doesn't feel much pain anymore, as his hair turns white. Kaneki becomes immensely strong and broke free from the chains. He used his Quinque (which are two tails that look like centipedes) to beat the sh*t out of Oomori and probably killed him too.

SEASON 2: Kaneki leaves behind the new friends he made as a Ghoul and goes after the Ghouls that tortured him, so that he can get his revenge. Juuzou gets introduced. Over the season, Kaneki fights the bad guys as well as a team of investigators (Mado). Kaneki finally decided to go back wand he runs into Hinami who alerts Touka of Kaneki's whereabouts. A lot of people from the investigator team attack Kaneki since he's very dangerous to the world. The one-eyed owl appears (who is also known as Eto and Sen (an author)) who is an Aogiri executive. This Ghoul is said to be the strongest Ghoul there is. Juuzou gets too full of himself and takes the one-eyed owl head on, he almost dies but Shinohara jumps in front of him and gets hit instead for Juuzou, nearly killing him. Kaneki returns to the coffee shop during all this where he finds Hide. Hide knew about Kankei's secret of being a Ghoul. But Kaneki soon notices that Hide got stabbed and that he was dying, sadly, without the right treatment nearby, Hide collapses and dies in Kaneki's arms. Kaneki proceeds to carry him over the streets in his arms as all the police forces who were there for him and the one-eyed ghoul watch him. That was how this season ended. During this season, Juuzou got accepted into the investigation force and they gave him a Quinque - a scythe. He fought the twins too. The coffee shop burned to the ground in the very end, just after Kaneki left with Hide's lifeless body. Many people were lots, and it was a tragic time.
